The Silver Spills

This album means a lot to me.  I started working on it in Nashville Tennessee, but I couldn't work well with the producer or a group of music row musicians that sound like every other player in town.  I went back to my hometown and finished writing and recording with friends at home.  Charlie Daniels plays on some of the songs and Mike Wanchic  from the John Mellencamp band mixed the music at his studio in Bloomington, Indiana.  Believe me, those guys on music row work far too hard at sounding like the last record they recorded.

 About the Songs

You're My Light:  I wrote this song in Minneapolis one winter . I had walked around with the chorus in my head for a few weeks and then all of a sudden the rest of the song just layed itself down on a sheet of paper. One of my favorite moments was walking into a church one morning to hear them singing it during worship.

No Idols:  I was very pleased with the end result of this song.  It talks about the dangers of lifting anything from this world up as an idol.  Carl Story from the Faith Band and Theresa Giles from the Bob & Tom show sing backing vocals on this project.  They are FANTASTIC!

Like A River:  I wrote this song about the importance of commitment in a marriage.  My hope is that it ends up being used in a few weddings here and there.  Theresa Giles from Bob & Tom show sings backing vocals on this song.  She takes the story to a whole new level.

Shotgun:  I recorded this song with Charlie Daniels the same week we were working on Reedy's Dream. We just turned everything up and went for it.

Nowhere to Run:  This song deals with what was on Judas of Iscariots mind just before he hung himself.  It appears on As The Silver Spills and The Broken Seal Albums.  Its always been a very important piece of music to me because of the story itself.  Take a listen, you can just imagine what must have been going though his mind.

Reedy's Dream:  I recorded this song with Charlie Daniels a while back.  It was written about my great grandpa, Charles Reedy.  Listen closely and you will hear Charlie playing fiddle, mandolin, and singing background vocals.

Glimpse of the Light:  This is a song I wrote that deals with spousal abuse.  Unfortunately too many people have to deal with this type of environment.

Taylorsville Angel:  This song has always been one of my favorites.  I was at a truck stop down the road one morning listening to a waitress talking to a few other people about her life.  On the way home, I wrote most of this song in my truck.
